Led by Dr. Jessie Parrish, DPT, CSCS, CF-L2, USAW-L1

What is loon state lift?

Loon State LIFT is a small-group class, meeting once weekly for eight weeks, that welcomes participants of all age groups and experience levels. This class is designed to provide education on the fundamentals of Olympic Weightlifting. Members will learn and refine the techniques of the main barbell lifts, the Snatch and Clean & Jerk, while also engaging in a strength training program, over the course of eight weeks. We aim to assist members in gaining confidence with the barbell, while falling in love with strength training.

Additionally, members have the option to pursue LIFT+, which is an expansion from Loon State LIFT, providing an extra two days of supplementary training per week. LIFT+ aims to enhance the fundamental development and overall strength with additional work.

So come prepared for 75mins filled of learning, fun, and community building through this exciting eight week experience!

Note: While this program caters to all skill levels, we concentrate primarily on refining the foundations, and is not designed to prepare athletes for competition.

meet Jessie

Dr. Jessie Parrish is one of the three Physical Therapists on our Loon State Team! She spent the previous 3 1/2 years in Northwest Arkansas, where she build a strong career foundation specializing with the strength athlete, CrossFit, and Weightlifting populations. She participated competitively with NWA Weightlifting and Mensch CrossFit, which were pivotal in her growth as an athlete. She strives to help other athletes find their passion in fitness, through coaching, education, and a career of optimizing patient recovery to maximize training potential.

Upon moving to Minneapolis in late 2023, she recognized a deficiency in resources for Olympic Weightlifting education and exposure for beginning athletes, especially in the Linden Hills/ Edina area. In pursuit of filling this gap, she strives to further connect with the community by elevating her knowledge and experience to help athletes feel inspired in their training. She hopes Loon State LIFT will be an early stepping stone in that journey.

Outside of providing Physical Therapy care at LSPT, Jessie is a CrossFit coach at CrossFit City of Lakes, a Team Alpha Coach at Lifetime Edina, a member of Torque Barbell Club, where she trains and competes in Olympic Weightlifting under coach Tyler Reiter.

Through her experience and dedication, she aims to provide athletes with the necessary support and guidance to excel in their training journey.

What is Olympic Weightlifting?

Yes, it IS a sport in the Olympics! But no, I am not training you to go to the Olympics! This sport has been trained, developed, and contested in the Olympics since 1920. Within the last decade, it has become widely more popular in athletic development, including Strength and Conditioning programs, CrossFit, and more.

The Snatch is a wide grip lift, in which the bar is lifted from the ground to overhead in one movement. The Clean & Jerk involves moving the bar from the ground to overhead in two movements, first from the ground to the shoulders (the clean), then to overhead (the jerk). These are full body movements that challenge your strength, speed, power, coordination, and MORE. Development of these areas is essential for both improving overall fitness, and for many aspects of life.
